Disinfection of public pools/spas and water parks is ensured by chlorine reagents. Disadvantages of this powerful oxidant are known:
- Chloramines are produced (toxic compounds)
- Trihalomethanes(THMs) are produced (carcinogenic elements)
- Poor efficiency against typical bacteria which grow in conditions of high temperature or else: legionella
Chloramines destroying process
After a review of functional criteria, the installation of a UV generator to destroy chloramines is the optimal process, with proven results. The UV generator is equipped with medium pressure lamps which produce multi wave length.
To successfully destroy chloramines present in the water, different wave lengths are used: 245, 297, 340 nm.
To break links between atoms of chloramines, values of physical units below are crucial:
- Wave length (nm)
- Energy produced (kcal/mol)
